Of all time!
Seriously, though...yeah, I just didn't connect with Tomoyo. Nagisa I connect with perfectly. I guess we share the whole lack of confidence thing. But, sorry to say, I just don't really care that much about Tomoyo. (Hmm...maybe the Facebook quiz about what character we're like has some truth to it...)Brandon P. A part of me will always prefer Tomoyo to Nagisa because of her confidence. Not that I can blame Nagisa for having a lack of confidence, but it's still refreshing to see someone who's very sure of herself.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14494072388187342473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7816889541653593405.post-38089441435656270002010-07-25T22:03:16.762-07:002010-07-25T22:03:16.762-07:00Nice post. Particularly with what you can see demonstrated in the Alternate Worlds episode (mainly, I'd draw on these episodes because they reveal bits of the characters that aren't touched on in the main series, but which still are true to their main-series character), it's a much less "crushy" love. It's a much more committed and in many ways stronger and more matured love.

She's an interesting character, I find, partially because I identify strongly with her, partially because her character isn't laid out all clean-like and in the open and overtly. You have to do a lot of reading between the lines. She's strong, and yet has this huge soft spot in her heart.

She has a drive matched only by Nagisa, I think, and in both cases it's a quiet sort of drive. Nagisa's a bit timid about it, but Tomoyo goes to action, though not in a loud way either, like Kyou might. It's public, but not out-loud.

It's also interesting to see just how deeply her cares run. Sure, she's out to save the cherry-trees, but that's only because of the sentimental importance to her family. She also, in the Alternate episode, is willing to sacrifice her own ambition for the Student Council, because she loves Tomoya. That drive and that strength and that commitment, I can really admire that.

I think she's definitely important for the series, because of this: she shows that it's in tragedy that the bonds of Kazoku become very important, and bind together. You could even see that as a bit of foreshadowing for the events of After Story, tying into the message of After Story in a strong way. Weird as it may seem, I think Tomoyo might possibly be one of the most important characters in the series.

Is Tomoyo the runner-up? In my opinion, yes. Not only is she strong and caring like Nagisa, but she's ready to kick (no pun intended) Tomoya into action, which he needs badly. And, like I mentioned, very strongly able to be devoted. I think it was A: a matter of timing and B: a somewhat different philosophy of relationship, which becomes evident when you contrast the two.

After note: I would not recommend Tomoyo After, from what I've heard it's an adult visual novel. On the other hand, the manga was pretty good, even if there were bits I disliked. It definitely does give more perspective into what she's like.Andy Haugehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11367057078787561828noreply@blogger.com
